My most memorable moment from the German occupation

There is a moment that I remember to this day. It happened during the German occupation, when there were constant roundups, and when women and men were deported for hard labor or to dig trenches. On the morning of 23 September 1944, the German army unexpectedly surrounded our town and suburbs to take all the men to Germany. When the residents found out about it, they started to hide wherever they could. My father and brother also went into hiding. When they came for daddy, I was trembling all over and asked God for them not to find him, and somehow they didn’t, despite a long search. With great joy, I ran to my dad to tell him that they were gone. My daddy and brother were happy to hear it and came home fine and healthy. I was so happy that I didn’t know what to do, but it occurred to me that I should thank God for saving my father and brother from the roundup.
