What do the mass graves tell us?
Mass graves tell us that there was a war and many people died in defense of their homeland. Our forests, in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, are full of crosses that mark the graves of the fallen. Trees weep over the graves, the grass sways mournfully, and the mothers, sisters, wives and all those who lost their sons, husbands and fathers cry in their homes. The trees tell of the fallen and of the war that was so fierce; grasses and forest flowers whisper prayers; the wind hums piteously over what is so sad and drowns out everything that lives and cries ... But it will not drown out the whisper of the graves that those who sleep underground were and are heroes, because this word beats to the rhythm of our hearts like a storm: “Heroes!”.
