My memories from clandestine teaching
During the German occupation, education in schools was limited. It was forbidden to teach many subjects; all that was Polish and near to our hearts was persecuted and eradicated. But the Polish youth had to know their heroes in order to follow in their footsteps. This is why we took part in clandestine teaching, even though both the teachers and the students risked their lives in the process.
I remember vividly one day when we were in class with a teacher. We were learning history. Suddenly a taxi pulled up in front of the building. Six Germans entered the room and asked what we were doing. We replied that we were having fun. They looked at us and left without a word. There were three of us, aged between 10 and 11. Maybe they believed us. I don’t know what they thought. We continued to learn.
