My most memorable moment from the occupation

I was six years old when I came to my grandmother’s in Białogon. It was the fifth year of the war. I often heard people talking about the war and the approaching front. One day we heard distant explosions. They were getting closer and closer. One bright day I was playing with my brother in the yard. All of a sudden there was a bang – a shell hit the factory. Then I got really scared. I cried, worrying about what could happen next. Then I saw tanks and cannons all around us. The explosions were horrible, shells were falling nearby and several houses went up in flames. It was a terrible moment. Luckily everything changed when the Soviet and Polish troops came.
