Class 6a
School No. 2 in Parczew
My wartime experience
It all happened in Parczew in 1944. One day the Germans drove up in trucks. With them were 12 prisoners who were to be hanged in the market square in Parczew. The Germans surrounded the square and did not allow any of those present there to leave – they wanted the people to look at the suffering of the victims. The executioner who hanged the prisoners stood right next to them. He put the nooses on their necks and then pulled them by their legs – the prisoners could no longer move. And so they were hanged, one after the other, until all 12 were hanging in the market square in Parczew.
They were left hanging for the whole day, and were only buried in the cemetery a day later. A large stone was placed in the square to commemorate them. Thus we see what harm Germany, Poland’s age-old enemy, has done to us.
