My wartime experiences
It all happened in 1943 in Parczew. Two cars arrived at the square on a market day. Prisoners were led out, and the Germans started to build the gallows. Later they forced people into the side streets to watch the execution. When the prisoners arrived, the gallows had already been erected. Some people got scared and ran home. The Germans brought the prisoners one by one to the platform, put stools under their legs and nooses around their necks. Then a German would kick the stool and the prisoner was hanged. People started praying and crying at the sight of it. The men were left hanging there for the night. The next day they were buried in the [local] cemetery.
