My wartime experiences
The war with the Germans started on Sunday morning at 10 a.m., and then the Russians started fighting the Germans, while I was sitting in a trench. I saw the Germans retreating; they walked right past us. For me, the military occupation was the most horrifying.
I also saw two homes on fire, burned by the Germans. It was raining and I was in the trench with my mum, dad and brothers. We took the picture of Our Lady and started praying together. We spent the night in the trench. Next morning was all quiet and peaceful. We started bringing everything back home, and I helped. Then we started welcoming the soldiers.
