Place of residence District Hospital in Końskie

In 1943, I worked at the District Hospital in Końskie. A punitive expeditionary force was stationed in the school next to the hospital. After some time, I noticed that the Germans were digging a great pit in the school yard. The pit gaped open for a few months, and on several occasions during that time, I heard the sound of shots, individual as well as serial. On hearing these shots, out of curiosity, I rushed to the attic of the hospital which afforded a better view of the pit, and I saw Germans holding weapons in their hands and looking towards the pit; I didn’t see the people who got murdered because there was no access to the pit, but there was an execution taking place there at that time. What confirms this is the fact that, after the Germans left, the pit was excavated and bodies of Poles were found in it. This happened at the time when the Świerczyński family, from Końskie, was arrested.
