On 13 September 1939, my husband Józef Balcerzak was taken by the Germans and imprisoned in Głowaczewo, and then relocated from Głowaczewo to Brzóza. In Brzóza he was released and then, on his way back home, he came across the German army in the Grabnowola village, Mariampol commune, where he was shot dead. I found my husband’s body three weeks later, and with the permission of German authorities, I brought him to the cemetery in Ryczywół where I buried him. I have testified.
