On 16 November 1948 the Magistrates’ Court in Zwoleń, with Judge Łowicki presiding and with the participation of a reporter, K. Gwarek, interviewed the person mentioned hereunder as a witness. After advising the witness of the criminal liability for making false declarations and of the significance of the oath, the judge took an oath therefrom, following which the witness testified as follows:
Name and surname | Stanisław Śmietanka |
Age | 34 years old |
Parents’ names | Aleksander and Katarzyna |
Place of residence | Okrężnica, commune of Grabów |
Occupation | farmer |
Criminal record | none |
Relationship to the parties | brother of the murdered victims |
I do not remember the day, but it was before the harvest of 1942, I was grazing rams near the village of Okrężnica, and while there I was informed that my brothers, Józef and Bronisław Śmietanka, had been shot dead by German gendarmes from Zwoleń. When the gendarmes left, I went up to the execution site and saw the bodies of my dead brothers. I do not know the surnames of the gendarmes, nor do I know why my brothers were shot dead.
