Until the outbreak of the war, I worked as a clerk with the Youth Labor Corps. Having received an evacuation order, I went to the Volhynia, to Mokwin in the district of Sarny. When I learned that the Soviet troops had entered Poland, I went in the direction of Kowel, intending to return home. In the vicinity of Kowel I was arrested as a member of the Polish army. I was transported to the prison in Kowel, and following that to Włodzimierz and Łuck.
In April 1940, I was deported to the labor camps in Komi ASSR. I worked there at railroad construction, and for most of my time there my pay consisted of 300 grams of bread and watery soup twice a day. We didn’t have any lodgings. For three months we slept by a fire in the open air, with no blankets or mattresses.
The NKVD was very hostile and spiteful towards the Poles. From April 1941 I worked in the hospital, but I was dismissed for having a bad attitude towards the authorities.
I was released on 15 September 1941. At this time I went in the direction of Buzuluk, but we were not allowed to get off at that station and our transport was sent to Samarkand. There we were sent to a kolkhoz, where we worked for three months in horrible conditions – sometimes we had nothing to eat for three days in a row. I reported to the Women’s Auxiliary Service in Guzar in January 1942, and I was assigned to the Garrison Hospital of the Army Organization Center. In August I was evacuated to Iran. I worked in Pahlavi until another evacuation to my current situation.
