In October 1942 I was captured in one of the round-ups and deported to the Reich as forced laborer. On 1 January 1943 I escaped from the Reich home, where I stayed until 14 July 1943. That day the former officer of criminal police, Stanisław Słonka, known for his hostile attitude towards the Poles, arrived in our village. He followed me out of the grocery store in which I met him and screamed at me to stop. Then, after checking my papers, he said that he was placing me under arrest for my escape from work at Blechammer. After three weeks of detention in custody I was sent back to Blechammer. A few days after my return to Blechammer I was assigned to work. Before leaving the camp I was severely beaten by a gendarme with a whip.
