JAN CIEĆWIERZ

A report drawn up on 10 October 1946 by the Communal Commission of the commune of Zaborów (district of Warsaw) for the Investigation of German Crimes, concerning the fatal shootings of Feliks Kielak, Wlaziński, Henryk Pamięta, the family of Michał Rurka, Jan Gromadka and Leon Ptasiński, the burning down of the farm of Michał Rurka, the execution of Józef Milej and Franciszka Gromadka – together with their 11-year old grandson – and the burning down of the entire village.

The following man was examined in the case:

1) the leader of the community of Truskaw, Jan Ciećwierz, who having been advised of the criminal liability for making false declarations or ones inconsistent with the truth, testified as follows:

In November (11) 1943, German gendarmes (Sicherheitspolizei) arrived from Zaborów in order to round up partisans. They entered houses, dragged out those whom they had on their list, and shot them dead right on the spot.

In this way they killed Feliks Kielak, Wlaziński, Henryk Pamięta, Jan Gromadka, Leon Ptasiński and Józef Milej. As regards Michał Rurka, he was executed together with his wife and four children on the night of the same day, whereupon the gendarmes set his farmstead ablaze and threw the bodies of the family into the fire. On the same night, following an interrogation during which Franciszka Gromadka and her grandson were beaten, the Germans locked both of them in the cottage, opened the window, and threw in an incendiary grenade. They were burned alive in the flaming building. In August 1944, the residents of Truskaw were evicted and the entire community burnt down.

The abovementioned facts may be attested to by the following witnesses: Jan Dziekański, Konstanty Dziekański, Józef Zych and other surviving residents of Truskaw.

I am fully prepared to repeat my testimony – accompanied by the witnesses mentioned above – under oath whenever so requested.
